Creativity

  • In the 1990s, Erwin Wurm created a series of “One Minute Sculptures”, which are the artist’s original find. In these sculptures, which exist in reality for a short period of time and are exhibited in the form of photographs or videos, the artist and his models enter into unexpected relationships with everyday objects. A person balances on a mop or chair, takes complex poses in shapeless clothes. The human body becomes a part of the sculpture, the line between performance and sculpture is erased.
  • Erwin Wurm, as a sculptor, creates more familiar “material” objects. His "inflatable" houses, bent and deformed cars and figures of people - the artist is engaged in the deconstruction of volume and material. In the artist’s work, one can trace the criticism of the consumer society (houses and cars “swam with fat”, a person who swallowed the globe), the irony about antiglobalism (series “in search of a bomb”).
  • In the late 1980s, the artist experimented with everyday items of clothing that he used to create sculptures. Erwin Wurm then began creating “Dusty Sculptures” and videos.
