In 1420 , he was made the herald of the dauphin Charles, and a year later, Berri, the herald-master (roi d'armes), hence his name. The duties of this service allowed him to get acquainted with all the outstanding personalities of the time and be present at all the most important events. Thus, Berry was at the coronation of Charles VII on July 17, 1429 , then at his ceremonial entry into Paris on November 12, 1437 , etc. He traveled around most of France , restoring city emblems and heraldic books, lost or destroyed during the war, and thus had the occasion to get even closer acquainted with the history of the country.

The result of all this was his following writings: The historical chronicle of France from 1402 to 1455 , which was included in the work of Denis Godfroy (Godefroy) "Histoires de Charles VI et de Charles VII" (Lond., 1863 ); “Le Reco u vrements de la Normandie” (ibid.); "L'Armorial ou le Registre de Noblesse" (Paris, 1866 ); La Description de la France (manuscript in Bibl. Nat.); “La Chronique de Normandie, depuis Rou, premier duc de Normandie, jusqu'en 1220” (manuscript by Bibl.Nat.).
