The plan has a rectangular shape: it is bounded by Matyushenko Lane , Babushkina , Polarnikov Streets and Somov Lane .
In the territory occupied by the garden, at the beginning of the 20th century, there was the Transfiguration Cemetery . Local historians tied the existence of a cemetery to the Imperial Porcelain Factory . Also, part of the cemetery was on the opposite side of Babushkina Street; now it is Vinogradovsky Square .
On December 21, 1970, the Lomonosovskaya station was opened on the territory of the Lomonosov Garden on December 21, 1970 as part of the Nevsky-Vasileostrovskaya line "Alexander Nevsky Square" - "Lomonosovskaya" section.
The garden gained fame for the logging and the planned construction of a commercial center by the company Macromir directly on the burial grounds. In late April - early May 2008, a fence was installed here, and later trees were cut down. However, on January 28, 2009 it became known that the construction was canceled and the fence would be dismantled [2] .
On January 27, 2015, a temporary chapel of the Transfiguration of the Lord was laid on the territory of the Lomonosov Garden (from the side of Matyushenko Lane). The idea of recreating the temple of the Descent of the Holy Spirit behind the Neva Gate, which was lost during the construction of the lobby of the Lomonosov metro station, appeared in 2006. In 2009, the parish of the temple was created, which began to be engaged in restoration. In 2012, a worship cross was installed at the historic site. The temple was built on donations, its consecration took place on August 19, 2015. [3] [4]
