The South Atlantic Range is an integral part of the underwater Mid-Atlantic Range of the Atlantic Ocean , located south of the Cheyne Fault (near the equator ).

The ridge stretches in the meridional direction for 10.5 thousand km; in the area of the Bouvet Island, it deviates in the latitudinal direction, passing into the African-Antarctic ridge . Strongly dissected. Depth above the ridge ranges from 1800 to 3400 m (in the southern part). On the slopes of the ridge there are a number of underwater volcanoes. Some peaks form volcanic islands ( Ascension Island, St. Helena , Tristan da Cunha , Bouvet ).
