According to historians, he was born in the Dutch city of Groningen , from where the family of his father, a merchant , moved to Dutch Brazil , where Rock lived until 1641 , until the newly separated Portugal regained control of the colony. After that, from time to time, he appears on Tortuga.
Roque the Brazilian perfectly mastered the craft of filibuster - he combined the courage of a warrior and the skill of a helmsman, and equally well mastered all types of weapons, including Indian onions . Like most other pirates, he was rampant and fierce; they say that more than once in a drunken rage he was walking along the street, hacking everyone he met with his saber , which he always wore naked.
He disappears unexpectedly, at the zenith of his “glory” and his further fate is another white spot in history. Most likely, he shared the fate of many pirates of that time and his remains rest somewhere on the seabed. Brazilian rock got this name because he spent a lot of time in Brazil. It is said that he buried treasures on the island of Isla de Pinos worth 100,000 pesetas.
