The Nitrian Codex ( Latin Codex Nitriensis ; symbol: R or 027 ) is a sixth-century uncial manuscript in Greek language containing the text of the Gospel of Luke with gaps, on 48 parchment sheets (29.5 x 23.5 cm). Palimpsest . In the 8th – 9th centuries, a Syrian treatise of Sevir of Antioch was written on top of the gospel text [1] . The name of the manuscript comes from the Nitrian desert in Egypt .

History
On top of the Gospel text of the manuscript in the VIII-IX centuries, a Syrian treatise of Sevir of Antioch was written. The manuscript was found in 1847 in the monastery of St. Mary of God, in the Nitrian desert (110 km northwest of Cairo ). Together with other manuscripts was brought to England . The text of the manuscript was published by Tischendorf in 1857 .
The manuscript is currently stored in the British Library in London (Add. 17211) [1] .
