Profundal (from the Latin. Profundus - deep) - part of the lake , which is characterized by considerable depth and lack of wave movements, wind mixing and bottom vegetation. [1] Profundal may be absent if the lake is shallow. The bottom of the profundal is covered, as a rule, by a thick thick mud. From living organisms, bacteria and fungi dominate.
