The city is located 211 km south of the administrative center of the region of La Serena .

- in the north - with the commune of Ilyapel
- in the east - with the province of San Juan ( Argentina )
- in the south - with the communes of Petorka , Cabildo , Putaendo
- in the south-west - with the commune of Los Vilos
