Architectural Attractions

  • The Holy Assumption Alexander-Oshevensky Monastery , founded by the Monk Alexander Oshevensky in the 1460s, is located at the entrance to the village from Kargopol.
  • Church of the Epiphany of 1787 with a bell tower standing nearby. The powerful octagon of the church with an expressive tent, most likely, repeats the previous one, which stood in the same place. The bell tower is somewhat reminiscent of Lyadinskaya : a low quadrangle , a relatively massive octagon, a low jingle and a tent. Under the influence of alien classicism, the pillars of ringing are sheathed by a hedge, so that they are arched spans. This structurally unjustified detail was on many belfries, such as in Saunino , but gradually they are given a historical look.
In 2014, 45 icons were stolen from the Epiphany Church - the entire forefather row of the iconostasis. Emergency measures to search for icons were taken at the initiative of President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and were carried out under the personal control of the Governor of the Arkhangelsk Region Igor Orlov . The icons found in 2015 were partially transferred to the church in the same year. In March 2019, lost and newfound shrines were displayed at a large exhibition in Arkhangelsk [7] .
  • Popov’s house-yard (second half of the 19th century) and the bell tower (1854) were moved from Pogost to the exposition of the State Museum of Wooden Architecture of the Russian North “ Malye Korely ”.
