History
The order was established by King Milan I on January 23, 1883 and named after the first Archbishop of Serbia, Saint Sava ( 1169 - 1236 ), the holy Serbian Orthodox Church who, shortly before his death, crowned his brother Stephen with a royal crown.
After the Second World War, the Order of St. Sava becomes the dynastic of the royal house of the Karageorgievichs and remains so to this day.
In 1986, the Serbian Orthodox Church established the eponymous order in three degrees, the awarding of which is made by the Serbian Patriarch.
Award Statement
The order is intended to be awarded "for service in the field of education, literature, church and fine arts . "
Description
The badge of the order is a silver gilt Maltese cross of white enamel with a blue border with gold balls at the ends, between the ends of which are Serbian double-headed eagles . In the center of the cross there is an oval medallion with a full-color portrait of St. Sava, framed by a blue ring with the Serbian inscription “TROUBLE YOUR RISE OF ACCESS”. Types of signs differ in the portrait of St. Savva and the reverse of the medallion. But the reverse side of the white enamel medallion contains the monogram of the founder of the order M.I. ( Milan I ). Since 1903, on the back of the badge of the order, instead of a monogram, a silver relief date for the establishment of the order was placed: 1883 .
The star of the order is eight-pointed silver, on which the sign of the order without a crown is superimposed. The star of the Grand Cross cavaliers is larger than the star of the Great Officers.
The Order of Saint Sava had five degrees:
