The title of “Psalmist” was approved on February 16 ( 28 ), 1885 , by the definition of the Holy Synod to all church officials who are clergymen, whose duties include reading from liturgical books , singing in the choir, and generally participating in all church services . The circle of duties of the psalm-readers is determined, by the Highest approved by the presence magazine on Orthodox clergy affairs on April 16 ( 28 ), 1869 (paragraph 4).

The duty of the psalm reader, under the supervision of the priest and at his command, was assigned to perform the reading and singing, accompanying the priest when visiting the congregation for the performance of spiritual requirements and all clergy in the church and the parish. He led metric books , search books to record married marriages, confessional murals, wrenches with a detailed description of all the data on the temple , the means of keeping the clergy , the amount of land, the library, and the families of all the members of the clergy.
