Biography
Rosen was born in 1909 in New York , died in 1995 in Haifa . He graduated from the Electrical Engineering Department of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He received a bachelor 's degree in 1929 , a master's degree in 1930 , and a doctor's degree in 1932 . In 1932 - 1933 Rosen worked at the University of Michigan , and since 1933 at Princeton University in New Jersey . At the beginning of his scientific career, in 1934 - 1936 , he was an assistant to A. Einstein at the Institute for Higher Studies in Princeton .
In 1936 - 1938 Rosen was invited to the USSR and worked as a professor of theoretical physics at Kiev State University . In 1938 he returned to the United States and continued his research activities at MIT.
In 1940 - 1941 he was an assistant professor, then became a professor at the University of North Carolina, holding this position from 1941 to 1952 .
Later, in 1953 - 1955 . and in 1960 - 1962 , Rosen was the head of the physical department of the Technion , In 1958 - 1959 . Head of Nuclear Research and Dean. Rosen was a representative of the Technion and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at D. Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in 1969 - 1971 .
Nathan Rosen was an adviser to D. Ben-Gurion [2] .
Work in Physics
Collaborated with Albert Einstein , dealt with the problems of substantiation of quantum mechanics and the interaction of bodies in the general theory of relativity . In particular, it is famous as the creator and “third party” of the co-authors of the Einstein – Podolsky – Rosen paradox [3] . In 1935 and 1937 , Rosen published, in collaboration with Einstein, articles on some fundamental problems of the general theory of relativity.
In 1935 , A. Einstein and Nathan Rosen put forward the idea that under certain conditions a continuous channel between two regions of space-time is possible. By means of such a narrow channel, like a neck, individual parts of the local space-time continuum located at any distance from one another could be connected. This predicted effect is called the Einstein-Rosen Bridge . Displayed graphically, it looked like a black hole attached to its mirror image (it should be noted that at that time the term “ black hole ”, introduced in the late 1960s, was not yet known).
In 1969 - 1979 Rosen worked on alternative theories of gravity and developed at that time a bimetric theory of gravity .
