Biography
Mitsuhide began to serve Nobunaga after Ode submitted in 1566 to the hometown of Akechi, Mino . In 1571, Mitsuhide received Sakamoto Castle in Omi Province for his faithful service. Along with Shibata Katsuie and Toyotomi Hideyoshi, he became one of Nobunaga's confidants.
In 1579, Mitsuhide took Yakami Castle, promising to save the life of its owner, Hatano Hideharu , but Nobunaga broke the promise of his vassal and executed Hideharu. This angered the Hatano clan, and Hideharu's successors avenged Akechi Mitsuhide by killing his mother.
In 1582, Nobunaga led a military campaign against Mori Terumoto . The troops at the front in Bichtu Province were commanded by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who requested Nobunaga reinforcements for a decisive battle with a superior opponent. Oda ordered Mitsuhide to gather an army and support Hideyoshi, and he, with several hundred warriors, stopped in Kyoto . Akechi Mitsuhide assembled a ten-thousand-strong army of people loyal to him, but did not lead her west to Bittyu, but entered the capital and attacked the Honno-ji temple , where Nobunaga was located. Oda Nobunaga, in order not to be captured by the traitor, made seppuku .
After receiving an audience with the emperor , Mitsuhide declared himself a shogun . Upon learning of this, Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu hurried to Kyoto to avenge the death of Nobunaga and take his place. Hideyoshi was the first to succeed, who defeated Aketi Mitsuhide at the battle of Yamazaki . Mitsuhide himself died in battle on July 2 .
