Valery Stepanovich Bashmetov ( Belorussian. Valery Stsyapanavich Bashmeta ; born April 8, 1947 , village of Konets, Gorodok district , Vitebsk region ) - Belarusian scientist in the field of weaving technology, Doctor of Technical Sciences (1993), professor (1994), Honored Worker of Education of the Republic Belarus. Academician of the Belarusian Academy of Engineering (1995), International Academy of Higher Education Sciences (1997). Rector of Vitebsk State Technological University since 1993 . Member of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus of the third convocation.

Biography
In 1971 he graduated from the Vitebsk Technological Institute of Light Industry with a degree in machinery and equipment for the textile industry. He later graduated from the graduate school of the Moscow Textile Institute .
Since 1977 he has been working at Vitebsk State Technological University . In 1986 he was appointed dean of the faculty, in 1993 - rector of the university.
V. S. Bashmetov is the author of scientific works on technology and improvement of equipment in the field of light industry. He developed methods for predicting technological processes for the production of textile materials, proposed effective methods and technologies for manufacturing fabrics.
March 17, 1997 V. S. Bashmetov was awarded an Honorary Diploma of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Belarus with the wording: “for the great work in preparing highly qualified engineering personnel, significant personal contribution to the development of science, strengthening the material-technical and educational base of the university” [1] .
From November 2004 to October 2008 he was elected from the Vitebsk region to the Council of the Republic , was deputy chairman of the Standing Committee of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus on legislation and state building.
On October 6, 2010 he was elected Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Organization of the Republican Public Association “Belaya Rus” [2] .
