Biography
In 1930 he graduated from the Kharkov Institute of Technology .
After the start of the construction of the metro in Moscow ( December 10, 1931 , Rusakovskaya Street ), he arrived in the capital. He worked as a shift engineer for mine number 9 - in the very center of the city.
From 1933 to 1940, the construction of the subway went from a shift supervisor to a mine director. In 1940 he was awarded the medal "For Labor Valor".
Five months before the start of World War II , on January 21, 1941, he was appointed Head of Construction No. 5 of the NKPS (later Lenmetrostroy, now OJSC Metrostroy). The laying of the first line began - Avtovo - Finland Station . But soon the war interrupted the construction. The construction was frozen (the first stage of the Leningrad metro was opened only in 1955 ), and metro builders began to build defensive fortifications on the Karelian Isthmus and the Luga defense line of Leningrad.
After in September 1941, Soviet troops crossed the Neva and occupied a bridgehead on its left bank ( Nevsky Piglet ), the Leningrad metro builders, led by Zubkov, were instructed to organize a pontoon ferry to transport tanks to the left bank of the Neva.

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of November 5, 1943, Ivan Georgievich Zubkov was awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor with the award of the Order of Lenin and a gold medal for special merits in providing transportation for the front and the national economy and outstanding achievements in restoring the railway industry in difficult wartime conditions. On June 28, 1944, a small military aircraft, on board of which was Zubkov, flew to a secret airfield near the town of Lodeynoye Pole . Suddenly, the plane was fired upon, and it crashed without reaching a few hundred meters to the landing strip. None of the crew members survived. Ivan Zubkov was buried in the Alexander Nevsky Lavra , on the Communist site (now Cossack cemetery ). The funeral was held with military honors, his coffin was taken along Nevsky Prospect on a gun carriage. A magnificent portal of red granite was built on the grave.

The eldest son of Ivan Zubkov from his marriage with Evgenia Zubkova, Georgy Zubkov (born 1926), is a well-known Soviet and Russian international journalist, professor at the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia .
Memory
