Biography
Born in Leningrad . In 1954 he graduated from the Leningrad Electrotechnical Institute . From 1954 to 1958 he worked at the Institute of Crystallography of the USSR Academy of Sciences . From 1958 to 2010 he worked at the Institute of Physics. L.V. Kirensky, Siberian Branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR ( Krasnoyarsk ), from 1968 - Deputy Director, from 1981 to 2003 - Director. Since 1971 - also a professor at Krasnoyarsk University , the head of the department.
Corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences ( 1972 ), full member of the USSR Academy of Sciences ( 1984 ).
He died in 2010. He was buried at the Troekurovsky cemetery (plot 7g) [3] .
Scientific activity
The works relate to crystallography and crystallophysics (elasticity of anisotropic media, physics of ferroelectrics , phase transitions in crystals ). He developed a unified approach to homogeneous and anisotropic solids from the position of symmetry . He carried out the first ultrasound studies of the propagation of elastic waves in crystals, studied the phenomena of internal conical refraction , rotation of the plane of polarization of elastic waves, reflection and refraction of waves at the interface of two anisotropic media, and obtained elastic waves polarized in a circle. Investigated the elastic properties of rock-forming minerals and rocks .
He elucidated the mechanisms of the occurrence of spontaneous polarization for a number of families of ferroelectrics, performed a study of bias-type transitions, and analyzed possible phase transitions in the perovskite family. Predicted the existence of a new family of ferroelectrics. He chaired the Scientific Council of the Russian Academy of Sciences on the physics of ferroelectrics and dielectrics, a member of the joint scientific council of the Physical and Technical Sciences of the SB RAS , a member of the editorial board of the journals Crystallography , Solid State Physics , Avtometriya , the international journal Ferroelectrics , the international journal Ferroelectrics Letters , international magazine Phase Transition .
