Monument to Nizami Ganjavi ( Azeri. Nizami Gəncəvinin heykəli ) - a monument to the outstanding poet Nizami Ganjavi located in Baku , in the park named after Nizami, at the intersection of Istigliliyat , Ahmed Javad, Azerbaijan and Islam Safarli . The opening of the monument took place in April 1949 [1] . The sculptor of the monument is the national artist of Azerbaijan Fuad Abdurakhmanov , the architects are Sadi Dadashev and Mikael Useynov [2] .

The monument is a bronze 6-meter statue mounted on a 9-meter octahedral pedestal. The pedestal is from red Labrador, the elements of Azerbaijani architecture of the Nizami era are used in its processing. At the bottom of the pedestal there is an ornamental carving and lined bronze plates. On seven plates - scenes from the works of Nizami, on one - a memorial inscription.

Bas-reliefs on the monument
Seven bas-reliefs depicting the heroes of five poems (“ Khamsa ”) by Nizami Ganjavi are carved on the monument. Among them are Nusherivan listening to a conversation between owls (“The Treasury of Secrets ”), Farhad, who leads the way through Bisitun Mountain (“ Khosrov and Shirin ”), Leyli and Mejnun, students at school (“ Leyli and Mejnun ”), who kills the dragon Bahram Gur ( “ Seven beauties ”), Iskander at the reception at Queen Nushaba (“ Iskander-name ”) and others. The bas-reliefs were made by the sculptor A. Khryunov according to the sketches of the artist Gazanfar Halykov [3] and are located on seven sides, flanked by a bronze plaque named after the poet .
