Filira ( ancient Greek Φιλύρα "linden") in Greek mythology [1] - oceanid . Daughter of the Ocean , one of his older daughters [2] .
Nawplia's wife and Kronos's beloved, mother of the centaur Chiron [3] . In Thrace, she gave birth to the horse Krona Chiron. When she saw the baby’s appearance, she asked Zeus to turn her into a linden tree [4] . Either it was on an island off the southern coast of Ponta Evksinsky, which became known as Filira [5] .
According to another version, fearing jealousy of Rei , Kronos turned Filira into a mare . Filira helped Chiron in bringing up Achilles and Jason . According to some myths, she was also the patroness of letters and incense.
The protagonist of the comedy Efippa "Filira."
