DescriptionAraza is a tree up to 2.5 m high with simple oval leaves 6-18 cm long and 3.5-9.5 cm wide.
White flowers are collected in thick brushes in the axils of the leaves.
The fruit is a spherical berry , with a diameter of up to 12 cm and a mass of up to 750 g, with a thin shiny yellow skin. Inside the fruit contains a yellow flesh with several large oblong seeds.
DistributionAraza grows wild in the forests of the Amazonian part of Brazil , eastern Peru and eastern Ecuador . In the XX century, it began to be introduced into the culture in these countries.
UsageAraza fruit is used to make juices , soft drinks, ice cream and canned fruit. It is rarely consumed fresh due to its very sour taste.
