Debra Lynn Messing ( Eng. Debra Messing ; born 15 August 1968 , Brooklyn , New York , USA ) is an American actress who achieved success thanks to her roles in television comedies. Best known for participation in the TV series " Will and Grace ", " Smesh " and " Secrets of Laura ".

Messing gained initial fame thanks to her role in the Fox show “ Ned and Stacy ” (1995–1997), but her breakthrough came after the release of the NBC sitcom “ Will and Grace ” in 1998. The series gained commercial success and received praise from critics, and Messing herself in 2003 won an Emmy Award for Best Actress in a comedy series .
She played a major role in the USA Network's “Hollywood Divorce” mini-series in 2007, which eventually turned into a regular series, but was closed after one season. In 2012–2013 she starred in the TV series “ Smash ”, and from 2014 to 2016 she played the lead role of Laura Diamond in the comedy “ Laura ’s Secrets ”. Starting in 2017, Messing plays the role of Grace Adler in the revival of the TV series "Will and Grace."
Messing's works on the big screen include such films as “ Walk in the Clouds ” (1995), “ Moth Man ” (2002), “ And here is Polly ” (2004) and “ Groom for Rent ” (2005) and “ Lucky (2007).
During her career, she was a total of six times nominated for an Emmy , nine for a Golden Globe , and eight for the US Actors Guild Award .
Early years
Messing was born in Brooklyn, New York. She has Polish-Russian-Jewish roots, her grandmother is from Krakow . In 1990, she graduated from Brandene University in Waltem, Massachusetts , and then received a Master of Arts degree from New York University [1] .
Career
After graduating from university, Messing made her debut in the Broadway production of Angels in America , after which she assumed a minor role in the TV series The New York Police . In 1995 she made her debut on the big screen with the role of the protagonist’s nervous wife in the movie “ Walk in the Clouds ”, after which she took the lead role in the Fox sitcom “ Ned and Stacy ”, where she starred for two seasons [2] . In 1997, she starred in the disastrous film “The Fleet of McHale”, and then played a major role in the short-lived ABC series Mining.
Messing has achieved the greatest fame thanks to the lead role in the NBC sitcom “ Will and Grace, ” where she starred from 1998 to 2006. This role earned her an Emmy Award for Best Actress in a comedy series in 2003, as well as six Golden Globe nominations for Best Actress in a television series - comedy or musical [2] . Thanks to television success, Messing appeared in the movies " Man-moth ", " Hollywood Finale " and " And here is Polly ", and in 2005 she played the first and only main role in the film of a large studio - comedy " Groom for hire ". She then starred in the failed films Lucky and Women , and then focused on a television career.
Messing starred in the 2007 Emmy-nominated 2007 Hollywood Divorce mini-series. After its success, USA Network decided to launch a full-fledged series that gathered only 2.4 million viewers and was closed in 2009 [3] . In early 2011, she was invited to play the main role on the NBC TV series Smash , which was closed after two seasons in 2013. In 2014, Messing returned to NBC with a starring role in the TV series “ Laura ’s Secrets ” [4] [5] .
Personal life
Messing met screenwriter and actor Daniel Zelman while studying at New York University in 1990. They were married on September 3, 2000, and lived in Manhattan , New York . On April 7, 2004, Messing gave birth to a son, Roman Walker Zelman [6] . Messing and Zelman broke up in December 2011 after 11 years of marriage [7] . She filed for divorce in June 2012 [8] , which was officially completed on March 1, 2016 [9] .
From late 2011 to October 2014, Messing met with actor Will Chase , a colleague on the Smash television series [10] .
