Vicuña ( Spanish: Vicuña ) is a city in Chile . The administrative center of the eponymous commune. The population of the city is 12 910 people (2002). The city and the commune is part of the province of Elki and the region of Coquimbo .

The territory of the commune is 7 617.1 km². ^[1] The population is 27,771 inhabitants (2017). The population density is 3.65 people / km². ^[2]

Location

The city is located 51 km west of the administrative center of the La Serena region on the banks of the Elki River .

in the east - the province of San Juan ( Argentina )
in the south - the communes of Paiguano , Rio Hurtado
in the southwest - the commune of Andacoglio
in the west - La Serena commune
