Vicuña ( Spanish: Vicuña ) is a city in Chile . The administrative center of the eponymous commune. The population of the city is 12 910 people (2002). The city and the commune is part of the province of Elki and the region of Coquimbo .

Location
The city is located 51 km west of the administrative center of the La Serena region on the banks of the Elki River .
The commune borders:
- in the north - Alto del Carmen commune
- in the east - the province of San Juan ( Argentina )
- in the south - the communes of Paiguano , Rio Hurtado
- in the southwest - the commune of Andacoglio
- in the west - La Serena commune
- in the north-west - the commune of La Higuera
