Ili district ( kaz. Іle audany ) is an administrative unit in the south of the Almaty region of Kazakhstan . The administrative center is Otegen-Batyr .

Geography

The district is located in the central part of the Almaty region and is bordered in the northeast by the Balkhash region , in the west by the Karasai and Zhambyl districts, in the south-east by the lands of the city of Almaty , in the east by the Talgar district .

About 80% of the territory of the region is located in the desert and desert-steppe zones: the Sartaukum sands and the Karaoy Plateau. Plateau Karao used for dry farming. History

The Ili district was originally formed on January 17, 1928, with the center in the village of Sandyk-Thai. But already on July 17, 1928, it was renamed into the Kargaly district with the center in the village of Bezvodnoye .

It was formed again from a part of the Kargaly region on November 30, 1930, with the center in the village of Eltai. From November 16, 1933, the center is the village of Kaskelen, on August 31, 1935 - the village of Dmitrievka, from May 29, 1936 - the village of Talgar (city from December 22, 1959), from May 14, 1969 - the village of Nikolaevka, from December 4, 1970 - the city Kapchagay From January 2, 1963 to January 31, 1966, the district was disbanded.

In 1970, district newspapers Ilyich Zholy, Ilyich Path began to be published in the district. [6]

Economy
