After graduating from the Paris Conservatory , in 1961 he entered the conductor at the Lyon Opera . In 1966, he shared with three other young colleagues - Walter Gillessen , Juan Pablo Iscierdo and Sylvia Caduff - a victory in the competition of conductors named after Dimitris Mitropoulos in the USA [3] , after which he worked as an assistant for Leonard Bernstein for a year; in 1967 he made his debut on the stage of the Metropolitan Opera and headed the Greater Miami Philharmonic Orchestra, giving, in the opinion of critics, the collective “new energy, style and popularity” [4] . In 1972 - 1983 led the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra ; In this post, he initiated the creation of the Rhine Opera by combining small troupes from Strasbourg , Colmar and Mulhouse . In 1988 - 1995 chief conductor of the National Orchestra of Aquitaine , since 1990 he also directed the Bordeaux Opera. In 1999 - 2005 stood at the head of the Orchestra of Italian Switzerland . He recorded the operas Carmen by Bizet , Lakme by Delibes , Faust by Gounod , The Magic Flute by Mozart , Turandot by Puccini .
