History
In ancient times, the ancient cities of Teheus and Mantinea developed near modern Tripolis. In the early Middle Ages, according to finds of the Philological Community in 1934 , central Morea (Peloponnese) was inundated with southern Slavs. For a long time there existed the Slavic settlement of Drobolitsa. Official Greek sources dispute the etymology of the root of the word. In the late Byzantine period, the settlement also fell into decay, the countryside in the district is flooded with semi-nomadic tribes of the Albanian Arvanites .
For full control over Morea in the Middle Ages , Byzantium , Venice and the Latin Empire fought long and unsuccessfully.
Modern Tripolis was founded by the Ottoman Turks in 1770 , who erected a castle with a well-fortified city center, which became the basis of Turkish power in the Sea .
After the construction of the fortress, an intensive Islamization of the region began. The main population of the city was made up of Turks , ousted Muslims and Sephardic Jews .
The city and its surroundings three times became the site of a bloody massacre. In 1820, Muslims massacred the Christians, fearing the beginning of the Greek independence movement; in 1821, the siege of Tripolitsy by Greek rebels ended in a massacre of Turks and Jews: at least 8,000-10,000 men, women and children were killed. In 1825, Egyptian General Ibrahim Pasha , who collaborated with the Turks, at the birth of an Orthodox Greek, re-captured the city, introducing a new massacre of Christians, the last conflict in the history of the city.
At the beginning of the 20th century, about 15 thousand people lived in the city.
