School Creation

On February 25, 1941, People's Commissar of Defense Marshal of the Soviet Union S.K. Timoshenko signed an order on the establishment of the Kharkov Aviation and Technical School. This date is the official school date.

Kharkov Engineering School

At first, in the USSR, most schools were for the preparation of flight and technical personnel of the Air Force . The established school in Kharkov was no exception. There was no normal educational process due to the outbreak of war . The rapid attack of the Wehrmacht on the territory of Ukraine set the command of the school to evacuate the school as soon as possible. From September 20 to 29 , 1941, cadets, teachers, and command personnel with families were evacuated to the city of Dushanbe . After arriving at a new place, the school quickly set up a training process, and in October more than 1000 aircraft were sent to the front. In 1944, the school returned to the place of permanent deployment in Kharkov. In connection with the complete destruction of the city, cadets for some time lived in dugouts, dugouts and tents. The school was later housed in buildings, and barracks were built for cadets.

Kharkov Higher Aviation Engineering Military School (KhVAIVU)

In 1948, the school was transformed from an engineering college into a higher aviation engineering military school (KhVAIVU).

School within the Strategic Missile Forces

After the creation of the Strategic Missile Forces, some aviation schools as a whole were transferred to the Strategic Missile Forces , as happened with the Kharkov and Serpukhov schools, both became part of the Strategic Missile Forces. Gradually, an excellent material and technical base for the training of missile officers was created at the Kharkov Higher Military Command and Engineering School. The school deservedly enjoyed high authority in the troops, graduates of the KhVVKIU were appreciated in all parts of the Strategic Missile Forces. A major role in the formation of the school as one of the leading universities of the Strategic Missile Forces was played by the Commander-in-Chief of the Strategic Missile Forces, Marshal of the Soviet Union N.I. Krylov , after whose death the school was named after him. During the training of missile officers, more than 30,000 highly qualified military specialists left the school.

Learning Process

Students and cadets studied at 6 faculties of the school in all the main specialties demanded by the Strategic Missile Forces: mechanical engineers, specialists in electronics, remote control and control systems, radio-technical control, energy, automated control and communication systems, and computer technology. The school was distinguished by a strong faculty, represented by a large number of doctors and candidates of sciences. Chairs and laboratories of HVVKIU were equipped with the most modern instruments, equipment, stands and simulators at that time. The school had an extensive scientific and technical library. Many textbooks and teaching aids were unique; they were developed by the teaching staff of the school departments and were in great demand in other related universities of the Strategic Missile Forces.

General educational departments gave students full university training. The curricula developed at specialized departments of the school were not inferior to the corresponding programs of related military engineering academies. Specialized academic councils for the preparation of candidates and doctors of sciences were created and successfully operated at the school for many years; there was an own school of scientific personnel.

A large number of college graduates subsequently became teachers of military universities, well-known scientists, as well as senior officers, heads of departments and offices in the formations, associations and the commander-in-chief of the Strategic Missile Forces. Among the graduates of the Kharkov school - a significant number of commanders of units and formations of the Strategic Missile Forces. The most famous military leaders are the Commander-in-Chief of the Strategic Missile Forces , Army General V.N. Yakovlev and the Commander of the Strategic Missile Forces, Lieutenant-General A.A.
