History

Locality called Lastva is mentioned in the XII century. The rich historical past is testified by the surviving Roman mosaics (late IV - early III century BC), the Church of St. Thomas (sv. Tome), St. Elias (sv. Ilije) and St. Vida (sv. Vida), Kastelo fortress and the walls of the infirmary. Also of interest are the church of the Holy Cross (crkva sv. Krsta) of the XIV century, located above Petrovec in the village of Novoselje on the road to Podgorica , and the Gradiste monastery in the neighboring village of Buljarica .

In the XVI century, the Venetian Republic established dominance over the village. At the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century, the town of Kastel-Lastva appeared on the ruins of the village, only in the 20th century the modern name Petrovac.

Tourism

Petrovac is a resort town of the Budva Riviera , located in a picturesque horseshoe-shaped bay with a beautiful reddish-sandy beach. It is also an administrative and cultural center with a post office, a medical center, a primary school, an art gallery, a cinema and a library. The air of the city is considered to be clean and healing, since Petrovac is surrounded by olive and coniferous groves. Many other types of southern trees and plants grow here: lemons, tangerines, figs, kiwi, grapes, oleander and palm trees. Along the waterfront, which is closed access to cars, there are many hotels, restaurants and cafes, souvenir shops (in the warm season), bars, bakeries, pastry shops, pizzerias. The city still has a market (it does not work in winter) and a couple of Voli stores. At the end of the embankment is a pier for yachts and fishing boats, protected by a natural wall from the waves and westerly winds. Excursion ferries depart from here in the summer season.

Petrovac is good for family holidays. City beach is equipped with showers and changing rooms, a rescue tower; You can rent umbrellas and sun beds, as well as kayaks and catamarans to sail to the islands of Holy Week (sv. Nedelja) and Katič (Katič). At the top of the first rocky island is the chapel of the same name St. Week, where you can ring the bell, and on the second - the lighthouse. If you walk past the hotels “Palas”, “Villa Oliva”, “Rivijera” in the direction of the football stadium, tennis courts, schools, police station and fire station, you can see the Lućice bay - one of the most beautiful on the Montenegrin coast, where enjoy the sound of the surf, the smell of pines and cypresses, flowering oleanders and fine gray sand. If you go a little further and overcome the hill with a height of 96 meters, you can get to the large two-kilometer-long pebble beach Buljaritsa. At the other end of the city of Petrovac, there is a picturesque promenade surrounded by ancient pines at a height of 50 meters along the sea. Passing through the tunnel (partially illuminated - it is better to take a flashlight), after 1300 m the Peražica Do bay will open with the unfinished As hotel. From there it is easy to get to the famous 13th century Reževici Orthodox monastery on the top of a hill.

In Petrovac, in the summer season, cars parked in places not intended for this are evacuated, the purchase price starts from 99 euros and more; Parking in the city is allowed only at the bus station, near the football stadium and near several apartments.

Attractions

The sights of the city include Roman mosaics, as well as small islands - Holy Week ( Montenegrin. Svete Nedelje ) and Katic. On the island of Holy Week is the same name church, which, according to legend, protects the local sailors. Every day, delightful excursions to the islands on kayaks, with a visit to the church, caves and snorkeling in crystal clear waters are sent from the city beach. Of interest is the Venetian fortress "Castello", from the upper terrace which overlooks the entire city. Not far from Petrovac is located one of the most important monasteries in Montenegro and in the Orthodox world - the complex " Gradište ".
