The beak-headed or trunk-headed [2] [3] ( Latin Rhynchocephalia ) is one of the four modern groups of reptiles. Representatives of the squad have a number of archaic features, in particular, a developed parietal eye . Modern representatives are the Tatters inhabiting the islands of New Zealand . Until recently, two species of living-life gatter were distinguished ( Sphenodon punctatus and Sphenodon guntheri ), but in recent years their independence has been questioned [4] .
