Biography
Born in a noble Russified German (although according to other sources, French or Jewish ) to the Wulf family.
She received her primary education at home, where teachers from Moscow University studied with Pavel, and then entered the Institute of Noble Maidens in St. Petersburg , where she studied for several years, and then decided that she would become a famous actress.
She decided to become an actress after she saw V.F. Komissarzhevskaya on the stage. On the advice of Komissarzhevskaya, whom she addressed with a letter, she entered the Pollack Drama School, a year later she switched to drama courses at the Imperial Ballet School at the Alexandrinsky Theater .
She made her debut on stage as a student in the role of Laura in the play by G. Suderman “Butterfly Fight”.
At the end of her studies, on the advice of her teacher, V. Danilina tried to enter the Moscow Art Theater, but was not accepted. Since 1901, she worked in the Nizhny Novgorod Theater in the entreprise of Nezlobin.
In 1902-1904, she was an actress of the Riga City Theater.
After the revolution, she lived in Rostov-on-Don . There she met Faina Ranevskaya . She became her friend, mistress [2] and teacher.
Pavel Leontyevna died in Moscow on June 8, 1961 . She was buried at the Don cemetery .
