In recent years, cultivated for edible red-purple fruits .
The tree reaches a height of 3-5 m, blooms with small flowers with white wax petals and sweet aroma. The leaves are lanceolate-elliptical, up to 20 cm long. The fruits of the tree have a pleasant sour taste and a special aroma. Their reddish pigment gives a unique attractive pink color to the juice extracted from them.
Kama-Kama fruits are very rich in vitamin C , amino acids ( leucine and serine ), antioxidant flavonoids and other polyphenols [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] , so the people of Amazonia used them for food and medicine for a long time . Mice fed red-violet fruits to Kama-Kama in food with high fat and sugar content gained 50 percent less weight and avoided obesity [7] [8] .
