Biography
Vladimir Vasilyevich Pronin was born on September 8, 1914 in Kiev ( Russian Empire ) in a Russian noble family, from religious parents.
After the October Revolution, the Pronin family moved to Serbia , then Romania .
In 1929, Vladimir graduated from a gymnasium in Chisinau , in which his parents were later buried. Also in 1929, Vladimir entered the Serbian Orthodox Seminary of St. John the Theologian in Bitola , where he taught the future hierarch John the Monk (Maximovich) , with whom he later maintained correspondence until the death of John.
From 1934 to 1937, Vladimir Pronin studied at the theological faculty of Belgrade University .
On March 10, 1939, Vladimir Pronin received monasticism with the name Basil in honor of the blessed Basil the holy fool , a Moscow miracle worker.
Some time later, as a priest of the Serbian Orthodox Church , he was sent as a preacher to the Diocese of Mukachevo-Pryashevskoy , which at that time was under the jurisdiction of this Church. Here he was ordained by Vladimir (Raich) , Bishop of Mukachevsky, who later helped the young hieromonk.
In 1945, Transcarpathia was annexed to the USSR , and the Mukachevo diocese came under the jurisdiction of the Russian Orthodox Church. Hieromonk Vasily served in various parishes and monasteries of the diocese, including the Intercession Church in Uzhgorod , built by Russian emigrants. In 1950, Hieromonk Vasily was transferred to the Mukachevo St. Nicholas Monastery , where he was a clergyman and took care of the monastery library.
Vasily (Pronin) was a very educated man, spoke 14 languages, in 1958 he was awarded the academic degree of candidate of theology of the Moscow Theological Academy for his work "The History of the Mukachevo Diocese". Later he also wrote Monastic Regulations, Rites of the Mukachevo Monastery, Bible and Mathematics, Revival and Resurrection, composed the Akathist to Rev.
