Ground structures
The station pavilion, the entrance to which is raised 11 steps above the surface of the earth, was designed by architects A. S. Getskin , V. P. Shuvalova and engineer V. I. Akatov. Located on Vasilievsky Island on the corner of Sredny Prospekt and the 7th line . Initially, the walls facing these streets were solid glazed, but later on, panoramic windows about two-thirds were bricked. Under the visor of the lobby, in order to prevent a possible recurrence of the incident that occurred at the Sennaya Ploshchad station, additional supports were installed, which were dismantled later than at the other stations - during the reconstruction in 2015. In the niches of the building there were built-in premises of telephone boxes, which were also cleaned in 2015.
In the lobby, the upper escalator hall is combined with the cash register; in this space, under-lighting is used. During rush hours, to prevent crowding in the escalator hall, most of the front doors close.
Underground Structures
“Vasileostrovskaya” is a closed-type station (“horizontal elevator”) of deep laying (depth ≈ 64 m). The station begins a series of six horizontal elevator stations in a row. The underground hall was designed by architects A. Ya. Macheret , A. I. Pribulsky , L. S. Chupina and engineer V. I. Akatov. From 1967 to 2018, the central hall of the station was presented to passengers in a shorter form: part of the hall of the station was occupied by office space, so the first two doors in the first carriage to the Primorskaya side and the last two doors in the last carriage to the Gostiny Dvor side were closed and blocked (from 2009 to 2018, this feature was mentioned in alerts of the autoinformer in train cars). In February-April 2018, work was carried out to transfer the end grille, after which, on April 11, 2018, locked doors became available for passengers to enter and exit [4] [5] .
The walls of the apron hall are faced with white marble . The floor is made of gray granite, pieces of tile are laid in the doorways of horizontal elevators. The transverse joints of the granite floor are decorated with aluminum profiles. Along the entire length of the walls, above the doorways, there is a smalt frieze of blue-green tones, in which eaves lighting is installed. The tunnel leading from the central hall to the escalators is also lined with blue-green mosaics. The lower escalator hall is illuminated by aluminum lamps in the amount of 14 pieces, complemented by two "windows".
An inclined course containing three escalators is located at the south end of the station.
Track Development
To the west of the station is a woolly exit.
Overhaul
From July 11, 2015 to May 27, 2016 the station was closed for major repairs, as a result of which the waterproofing, drainage umbrellas and inclined lighting were replaced. The lobby of the station was also thoroughly renovated [6] .
Performance Issues
Due to the peculiarities of the design and construction of the metro in the 1960s (a small lobby area, the presence of only three escalators, etc.), the station experiences significant overloads, which causes restrictions on entry and exit and, as a result, crowding during rush hours.
Draft decision
To solve this problem, it is planned to build in 2019-2025 the second inclined run of the station, which will be located between houses 34 and 40 along the 11th line of V.O. [7] [8] [9] .
Perspectives
By 2028-2030, it is planned to build a transition to the Sredny Prospekt station of the Koltsevaya Line [10] .
