Beta Ursae Majoris (β UMa / β Ursae Majoris) is a star in the constellation Ursa Major . It also has the traditional name Merak from the Arabic maraqq - “groin”. Included in the asterism of the Big Bucket .

With the help of an imaginary line passing through the stars of Dubhe and Merak, you can find the North Star . Beta Ursa Major shines brighter than the Sun 69 times. Merac is part of the Ursa Major moving group of stars .
