Facade of the Palace of Sanssouci.
Sans Souci ( Sans-Souci , which means “without worries”) is the half-ruined palace of the Haitian King Henri Christophe , located in the town of Milo, 13 km from Cap Haitien .
The palace was built in 1810-13. Not far from the grand fortress Laferiere . In 1820 in Sans Souci, Henri Christophe committed suicide with a silver bullet, and his son and heir, Jacques-Victor Henri, was stabbed with the bayonets of the rebels.
Locals refer to the palace, destroyed by an earthquake of 1842, with superstitious prejudice, considering it to be damned.
In 1982, UNESCO recognized it, along with other monuments of the National Park of Haiti, as the heritage of all mankind .
