Extraflore nectaries on cherries
Extra-flora nectaries are nectar glands in higher plants located outside the flower (on pedicels, stipules, stems, leaves). There are several theories about the origin of extra-flora nectaries , one of which is needed to remove excess sugars . In addition, they serve to attract ants, which discourages plant-eating phytophages (for example, caterpillars) [1] . Externally, extra-flora nectaries are reddish swellings with a diameter of about 2 mm, located on the shoot . In linden, they are located at the base of the leaf .
