12-cm Granatwerfer 42 ( German: 12-cm mortar of 1942 model ) - German 120-mm mortar of the Second World War. Serial production of mortars was established at the Waffenwerke Brünn factories in Brno .

Development

Created on the basis of the Soviet 120-mm mortar arr. 1938 at the end of 1942. The main difference, visible visually, is a horizontal-type drum-like wheel instead of a crank handle.

In 1941, the Germans captured several hundred serviceable Soviet 120-mm mortar arrays as trophies. 1938, and in occupied Kharkov they got technological documentation for this mortar. After the tests, it was decided to start production of such a mortar.

Production

Mass production of the mortar began in 1943. The first mortars entered the troops in January of that year.

In 1943, according to the states of the Wehrmacht divisions, they were supposed to have: in the infantry 24 units, in the tank 16 units, in the airborne - 63 units. 120 mm mortar arr. 1942 year.

The cost of one 120 mm. mortar arr. 1942 amounted to 1,200 Reichsmarks .
