Juan Atkins is the founder of one of the most significant phenomena in modern electronic music - the Detroit techno. His record Enter, released in 1983 together with Rick Davis under the name Cybotron, is considered the first techno release in the history of electronic music. This project later turned out to be style-forming for many areas of electronic music.

Since the late 80s, Atkins worked under the pseudonyms Model 500 and Infiniti, his releases were released on his own label Metroplex, where he experimented with sound and created the legendary standard, hereinafter referred to as Sound of Detroit. One of the latest author’s releases of the musician is The Berlin Sessions, released in 2005. At sunset in the 80s, Juan Atkins began recording records that had the most significant impact on the development of techno. Anticipating future music that combines cosmic notes of funk music from Parliament, hard computer synth-pop from Kraftwerk and techno-futurism, described by sociologist Alvin Toffler, author of The Third Wave ) and “Future Shock”, Juan Atkins hid his name behind the curtain of the aliases Cybotron, Model 500, Infinity, which today represent the classic Detroit techno.

Here's how Juan Atkins answers the question of how Detroit Techno differs from other music, such as the Chicago House Movement: “Techno has always been more soulful and progressive. It went as far as science fiction allowed. At school I took the subject “Future Studies”. One of the books I needed to read was titled Future Shock by Alvin Toffler's Future Shock. And besides, Detroit, like no other city, has undergone so many changes. When everything around changes, you yourself change. ”

When asked why he was so often called the godfather of techno, Juan answered: “Maybe because I am him. At the very beginning, I was just a kid indulging in equipment - I wanted to do something new, completely different. I just looked forward. ”
