Mitte ( it. Mitte - "center") - the central administrative district of Berlin , in current borders existing since 2001. The district was formed during the large-scale reform of the administrative division of Berlin through the merger of three former independent districts Mitte , Tiergarten and Wedding . The reform also introduced districts within the districts, and the old Mitte district received district status within the new district of the same name.
