Santa Coloma (football club)

The team was founded in 1986. Santa Coloma won the 1990/91 Andorra Cup ^[3] . In the 1994/95 season, Santa Coloma won the Andorran Championship ^[4] . The following season, the team took part in the first Andorran championship under the auspices of UEFA and won bronze medals. In the Andorra Cup, the team participated in the final, where they lost to Principat (0: 2) ^[5] . In the 1997/98 season, the club first became the silver medalist of the Andorran championship, and team player Rafael Sanchez Pedrosa was the top scorer, who scored 36 goals ^[6] . In the Andorra Cup, Santa Coloma became a finalist, where it again lost to Principat (3: 4) ^[7] .

In the next 1998/99 season , Santa Coloma became the silver medalist of the championship and the finalist of the Andorra Cup , where she lost to Principat (1: 3) ^[8] . The next season was more successful for Santa Coloma, the team won the championship, cup and the first Andorran Super Cup . In 2003, the team was led by a Spanish coach and former team player, Javier Rour, who coached the team for the next four years. In the 2003/04 season , Santa Coloma lost to the Danish Esbjerg (1: 9) in the first qualifying round of the UEFA Cup . Argentinian Hernan Walker scored the only goal in a home game. In the Super Bowl, Santa Coloma lost to San Julia (1: 2). The team also once again became the champion and winner of the Andorra Cup ^[12] .

In the summer of 2004, the team played in the first round of the UEFA Cup qualification against the Bosnian Modrici (defeat in the sum of two matches 0-4). In the Andorran championship, the team became a bronze medalist and winner of the Cup . On September 14, 2005 in the match the Super Bowl “Santa Coloma” defeated “San Julia” with a score (0: 1). The only goal scored by Pinto ^[13] . In the 2005/06 season, the team took the 3rd place in the championship of the dwarf state for the second time in a row. In the Andorra Cup, “Santa Coloma” defeated the “ Rangers ” in the final (1: 1 in regular and extra time, on a penalty 5: 3). On September 17, 2006, in the Andorran Super Cup, Santa Coloma again lost to Rangers in extra time (4: 3) ^[14] .

In the 2006/07 season, the team became the silver medalist of the championship , losing only to Rangers. Santa Coloma striker Joan Toscano was the top scorer of the tournament ^[15] . In the Constitution Cup, “Santa Coloma” reached the finals, where they beat “San Julia” (2: 2 main and extra time, 2: 4 on a penalty spot). In 2007, the team was led by Vicente Marquez , who previously, together with Rangers, achieved the first draw in the history of Andorran teams in European competitions ^[16] . In the first round of the 2007/08 UEFA Cup qualification , Santa Coloma unexpectedly beat Maccabi from Tel Aviv (1-0) on his field, Julia Fernandez scored the ball. In the summer of 2010, Santa Coloma participated in the first qualifying round of the Champions League against the Maltese Birkirkara . The first home meeting ended with a technical defeat (0: 3), due to the poor condition of the field at the stadium “ Comunal d'Andorra la Vella ” ^[26] . The second game ended with the victory of the Maltese (4: 3). The match for the Andorran Super Cup in September 2010 ended in defeat from the “San Julia” in extra time (2: 3) ^[27] .

At the beginning of the 2013/14 season, the team was led by Richard Imbernon . The Andorran Championship ended for Santa Coloma with a victory, and the Cup ended in the semifinal stage. The captain of the team this season was defender David Riboleda ^[33] .

In the 2014/15 season, for the first time in its history, “Santa Coloma” went to the next round of European cups, defeating the Armenian “ Banants ” in the first qualifying round of the Champions League due to a goal scored on a foreign field (1: 0 and 2: 3). The decisive goal in the 95th minute of the second match was scored by Andorran goalkeeper Eloy Casals ^[34] . In the second round, the team played against the Maccabi from Tel Aviv (with whom the Andorrans played in the 2007/08 season). By the sum of two matches, the Israelis won (3-0). The Andorran Super Cup 2014 ended in defeat from the “San Julia” (0: 1) ^[35] . According to a survey of readers of the Andorsport website, Santa Coloma was named the best team of Andorra in 2014 ^[36] .

In the 2014/15 season, Santa Coloma was one of the most successful teams in Europe ^[37] . At the African Nations Cup 2015 , the Santa Coloma player Juvenal Ejogo-Ovono representing Equatorial Guinea participated. According to the results of the championship, the team won gold medals, the club's top scorer with 22 goals was Christian Martinez , the club’s player, Ildefons Lima was the team captain this season ^[38] . May 10, 2015 “Santa Coloma” played in the Andorran Cup final against “San Julia” and lost with the score (1: 1 in regular time and 4: 5 on the penalty spot) ^[39] .

El Clasico

The main confrontation of “Santa Coloma” in the championships of Andorra are the games against the team “ San Julia ”. This derby is called classic or El Clasico. Both teams have been competing for the Andorran champion titles ^{[40] [41] [42]} since their inception. The teams met six times in the finals of the Constitution Cup, and Santa Coloma won in five games. The local derby is the game against the Santa Coloma Uni Esportiva , which is also based in the village of Santa Coloma .
