General Information

The volume of the tribe is more than one hundred genera and more than three thousand species , distributed throughout the planet.

The life forms of the godson are diverse, but annual and perennial herbs predominate. There are also shrubs , vines and, occasionally, woody plants (the so-called rosette trees ).

The name of the tribe is derived from the name of the type genus - the godson, or Senecio ( Senecio ).

Like other representatives of the Astrov family , the Krestovnikovs are characterized by tubular flowers collected in baskets , which are often closer to the edge of the basket with a long reed limb.

In the European part of Russia , three genera belonging to this tribe are best known:

  • Coltsfoot - the only species of the genus is very widespread, found on wastelands, on roadsides, near housing;
  • Butterbur - two or three species; found in ravines, as well as along the banks of rivers and streams;
  • The godson - several species; found near housing, in vegetable gardens, in fields, at the edge of forests.

Childbirth
