Liozno ( Belor. Lёzna ) is an urban settlement in Belarus , the administrative center of the Liozno district of the Vitebsk region .

It is located 40 km from Vitebsk on the Vitebsk highway - the border of the Russian Federation, at the confluence of the Snake River into the Moshna River. Railway station on the line Vitebsk - Smolensk . The population is 6,688 people (as of January 1, 2016) [1] .
Content
History
The first appearance on the maps was noted in 1569.
In the summer of 1800 G. Derzhavin visited Liozno - by order of Paul I, he found out the living conditions of the peasants in connection with the famine that engulfed Belarus.
In 1812 there was a French regiment of the 25th infantry division of the Württemberg division of General Marchand ; at this time, Faber du Faure wrote here a number of paintings.
Famous artist Marc Chagall was born in Liozno.
From July 17, 1924 - the center of the Liozno district of the BSSR.
In July 1941, J. Stalin's son, J. Dzhugashvili, was captured by Liozno.
On December 30, 1943, in the vicinity of Liozno, Senior Lieutenant MP Sudakov , who was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, received the last battle.

In 2017, 61 people were born in Liozno and 90 people died. The birth rate is 9.1 per 1000 people (the average for the district is 9.7, for the Vitebsk region - 9.6, for the Republic of Belarus - 10.8), the mortality rate is 13.4 per 1000 people (the average for the region - 19.9, in the Vitebsk region - 14.4, in the Republic of Belarus - 12.6) [9] .

Transportation
Motorways P21 ( Vitebsk - Liozno - Russian border) and P109 (Liozno - Orekhovsk - M8 highway) pass through the village. Also through the village passes the railway Vitebsk - Liozno - the border of the Russian Federation with Liozno (station) .
