Story
This is a Victorian cautionary tale about the old and hardened miser Ebenezere Scrooge, who hates joy and holidays, which during one night changes for the rest of his life. For three nights, three ghosts come to Ebenezer. The spirit of last Christmas takes Scrooge to the places where he was born, and shows him past events, as well as parting with the bride because of his hardened character.
The spirit of Present Christmas allows Ebenezer to see how his clerk, Bob Cratchit, who lives in poverty and may no longer be able to celebrate the next holiday with his son Tim, celebrates Christmas - the boy is very weak and can hardly walk. Scrooge sees the celebration of Christmas at his nephew Fred, who compared Scrooge with a donkey. However, Fred and his guests make a toast to Uncle Scrooge. The spirit of the Coming Christmas is perhaps the most sinister. He shows Scrooge many people who are talking about the death of some old man who was very stingy and disliked by all.
Also, the Spirit again brings Ebenezer to his clerk's house - Tim did die, because he could not get help. More Scrooge gets into the house to the junkie, where he sees how all the things stolen from the dead man are sold, right down to the last shirt. At the end of the journey, Ebenezer asks who was the dead man that all those people were talking about. In an instant, he finds himself in a cemetery, near a snow-covered gravestone, and realizes that he himself was the dead man. The ghost looks like snow from a date, but Scrooge begs him to give him a chance and asks him not to show the year. He promises that he will change, but suddenly the earth goes under his feet, and Scrooge falls into the coffin.
For the moment darkness comes. Ebenezer opens his eyes and realizes that he is lying at home on the floor, entangled in the canopy of the bed. Scrooge starts laughing loudly, runs out into the street and congratulates everyone they meet on Christmas. He buys the biggest turkey in the nearest store and sends it with a cab to the house of his employee. In the evening he comes to his nephew, when the whole family is at the festive table. He is gladly accepted, and he spends a wonderful, truly Christmas evening. In the morning he goes to work and reports Bob for being late. He apologizes, but Scrooge says in a very strict tone: “My angelic patience has come to an end! And because ... and because I raise you salary! "
After these words, he laughs heartily. Mr. Cratchit remains perplexed, and Scrooge sends him to the store for coal - he used to skimp on heating.
The film ends with Bob delivering a closing speech, something like the words of the author. From her, we learn that the boy Tim has completely recovered, and Scrooge has become his second father. The film ends with the words of Tim: "God save all people!"

Production
Even before the shooting of the film Zemeckis said that Dickens's “Christmas Carol” is one of his favorite stories about time travel [5] .
This three-dimensional film was created using the motion capture technology that Zemeckis used in his previous films Polar Express (2004) and Beowulf (2007) [6] .
The lead roles in the film are played by Jim Carrey, including the role of Ebenezer Scrooge in youth, maturity and old age, as well as the three ghosts that are Scrooge [6] . As Kerry himself noted, the film’s script is close to the book and the four different phases of the main character’s life required a lot of work from the actor, both vocally and physically [7] . At the same time, Kerry tried to convey English and Irish accents as accurately as possible, counting on a favorable reception of the film in the UK [7] .
The filming of "Christmas Story" began in February 2008, and the film was released on November 6, 2009 in the United States [8] .
