Biography
V.N. Ryabtsevich was born on November 26, 1934 in the village of Krasnoye, Kirovsky District, Mogilev Region, in a professional military family. He was educated at Belarusian State University , which he graduated in 1957 . From 1959 to 1963 studied at the graduate school of the State Hermitage (the supervisor is Doc. historical sciences I. G. Spassky ). C 1957-1959 - Researcher, Organizational Group of the State Museum of the BSSR. Since 1963 he worked at the Faculty of History of BSU . In 1999, he became a member of the created Military Heraldry Commission under the Security Council of the Republic of Belarus. V. N. Ryabtsevich - author of 4 monographs, more than 100 scientific and 300 encyclopedic articles. His very first book, What Coins Tell About (1968), for a short time disappeared from the bookshelves of stores, becoming a reference book for professional numismatists and collectors. The second edition of this work, published in 1977 with a circulation of 190 thousand copies, was no less popular. In 1995, “Numismatics of Belarus” was published, which is essentially an encyclopedia of money circulation in Belarus from the time the first coins appeared (I – II centuries) until the end of the XX century. In 1995, another scholarly work “Russian-Polish” coin emissions of the era of Peter the Great "was published, which became the subject of his doctoral dissertation, defended in 1996. It contains analytical analysis of abundant historiography, first introduced into the scientific circulation of archival and numismatic sources resolved a number of problems that have been the subject of fierce discussions of numismatists from the end of the XVIII century.
