In the Netherlands
After graduating from college, Tanya Neymeyer entered the University of Groningen , where she took up the study of the Spanish language and literature, and also became interested in the history of revolutionary movements in Latin America. During his studies, he actively participates in student life, gets acquainted with left activists [1] , and is engaged in squatting [2] [3] . While working on a diploma on the history of the FARC, in 2000 Tanya Neymeyer went on an internship in Colombia in Pereira , where she participated in the campaign “Caravana por la Vida” to draw attention to the problems of the poor [4] [5] .
In Colombia
According to friends, it was life in Colombia that prompted her to join the FARC: “She always felt ashamed for living in comfort and abundance. And the life of Colombia simply struck her. She was shocked by the abyss that divides the rich and the poor here ” [6] .
In 2002 , after graduating, Tanya Neymeyer returns to Colombia and establishes communication with representatives of the FARC, then - joins them as a translator under the pseudonym “Alexandra” (“Alexandra”).
In 2005, her mother visited her in the jungle [7] .
In 2007 , after an attack on one of the FARC camps, the government army seized diaries written in English, Spanish and Dutch by some Ellen partisan, in which she criticized the FARC leadership. In particular, she blames the commanders for reckless life, and their girlfriends for the infatuation with Ferrari cars and breast augmentation surgery . Later Tanya explained the criticism with her “ infantilism ” [8] .
Advocacy Campaign
The Colombian government is launching a propaganda campaign against the partisan army , as the diaries of Tanya Neymeyer criticize members of the FARC unit in which Tanya served. Part of her notes with bills is published in the central press, and the government declares Tanya killed or wounded during the operation. Then, in response to evidence of the life of Tanya Neymeyer, Colombian Foreign Minister Fernando Araujo Perdomo claims that after this publication, Tanya’s life is in danger [9] .
Raul Reyes , the FARC “Foreign Minister”, gave an interview to one of the Dutch television companies, in which he indicated that his organization does not have any complaints against Neymeyer and that the FARC will help Tanya meet with her family. Also on the Internet, a video statement of Tanya was released, in which she conveyed greetings to her relatives and said that she was okay.
After that, reports appeared in the government media that the reason for the notes in the diary entries was that they were not contained on a laptop , but on notebooks burned during the attack; that the FARC women's unit during the attack bathed naked and the women fled into the jungle [10] .
Further fate
After the routing of the partisan camp and the assassination of Mono Hohoy [11], the Colombian government again “buried” the Dutch partisan: it was assumed that, demoted after publishing her diaries, having done the most dirty work, she was forgiven, became Mono Hohoy’s personal assistant and died during the air plaque . Both the death and the so-called demotion of the partisan were soon again refuted by herself.
In August 2013, Tanya Neymeyer was in the Cuban capital Havana as part of the FARC delegation at the peace talks between the FARC and the Colombian government. She appeared in articles under the pseudonym of Alexander Narinho, where she branded the administration of President Manuel Santos [8] .
The case of Tanya Neymeyer is not an isolated one. According to experts [12] , at least 18 Europeans from leftist organizations and squatting in Belgium , Switzerland , Norway , Sweden , Denmark and Greece have been fighting in the ranks of the FARC, and the FARC has been involved in its activities since 2000.
