History
The exhibition originated in 1947 as part of the Hannover Fair . Since 1970, it has been called Ce ntrum der B üro- und I informations echnik. It was first created in 1970 with the opening of the site number 1 of the Hanover Fair, which became the largest exhibition hall in the world [3] . However, in the 1980s such an attention was paid to information technologies that since 1986 there has been a separate exhibition, which takes place four weeks before the Hannover Fair.
As CeBIT quickly grew and developed, it was decided to concentrate on the professional market, while a separate show was devoted to the home market - CeBIT Home, which is planned to be held in the summer of two years. However, after the exhibition was held twice (in 1996 and 1998), the CeBIT Home project was canceled and forgotten.
In the early 2010s, the exhibition began a gradual reorientation from the consumer to the corporate and government segments. The organizers restricted visiting the exhibition with children under 18 years. The policy of the organizers led to a drop in attendance and the dominance of large corporate pavilions (SAP, IBM).
CeBIT in the world
Since 1999, Deutsche Messe AG has been organizing CeBIT exhibitions outside of Germany:
- CeBIT Asia in Shanghai , China
- CeBIT Australia in Sydney
- CeBIT Eurasia in Istanbul , Turkey
CeBIT America / USA was held in 2003 and 2004, but was canceled in 2005.
Criticism
The largest Taiwanese companies ASUS and Gigabyte have decided not to participate in CeBIT 2013 [4] .
