Born in 1841. Started service in 1862 in the 43rd Dragoon Tver Regiment , then was transferred to the 12th Caucasian Line Battalion. As commander of the 3rd Dagestan cavalry-irregular regiment, he participated in the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878. , distinguished himself in battles for the fortress of Kars and Erzurum , was awarded the Order of St. Anne 1st degree with swords.

On August 2, 1879 he was awarded the Order of St. George 4th degree

"In retribution for the differences in cases against the Turks in 1877: October 2, during the occupation of the heights of Shatyr-Ogly, and on the night of November 5 to 6, during the assault on the Kars fortress."

Since 1879, he commanded the 1st Dagestan cavalry regiment, as part of which he took part in the unsuccessful campaign of Lomakin against Geok-Tepe .

Since 1883 - Colonel; in 1889 he was appointed commander of the 45th Dragoon Seversky Regiment , which he commanded until 1896. In the same, 1896, he was promoted to major general . On June 11, 1902 he was appointed commander of the 2nd Brigade of the 9th Cavalry Division, however, only having assumed office, he died on June 27. He was buried in the church of the village of Shuamta in Kakheti.

Among other awards he had orders: St. Vladimir of the 4th, 3rd, 2nd (1882) and 1st (1901) degrees, White Eagle (1886), St. Alexander Nevsky (1890), as well as a number of foreign ones.

His brother, Zakhary Gulbatovich , was an infantry general and military governor of the Dagestan region.

He was married, had two sons and two daughters.
