Player Career

Blomkvist began his professional football career in 1992 at the Swedish club Umeå . He played one season for this club, after which he moved to the more titled Gothenburg . As part of Gothenburg, Blomkvist won the Swedish championship four times in a row (in 1993, 1994, 1995 and 1996), and also made his debut in the Champions League, where he attracted the attention of football breeders from leading European clubs. In 1996, he signed a contract with the Italian Milan .

In “Milan” he played only one season, after which he moved to “ Parma ”. In Parma, he also played one season, and in 1998 was acquired by the English club Manchester United , where he was to replace the striker Mankunians Ryan Giggs .

Bloomquist's first season at Manchester was the most successful of his career; this season the club took a double in the national championship, winning the title of champion of England and the FA Cup , and also won the strongest club tournament in Europe - the Champions League; in the league final on May 26, 1999, Munich Bavaria was defeated at the Nou Camp in Barcelona. The League final was the last official match of Blomkvist in the Manchester: he received a severe knee injury and for the next two seasons remained on the bench, never once entered the field. In November 2001, he moved to another English club, Everton .

Everton coach Walter Smith planned to use Blomkvist in flank attacks in tandem with his compatriot Niklas Alexandersson . However, Bloomquist was injured again, and David Moyes , who replaced Smith as club head coach, in the summer of 2003 allowed him to move to Charlton Athletic . In Charlton, in the 2002/03 season, Blomqvist played only three matches, after which he returned to his homeland. In Sweden, he was a player of Djurgården for two seasons, with whom in 2003 he became the champion of Sweden for the fifth time. However, in this team, he spent only 9 matches in 2003, and in the future, due to health problems in 2005, he was forced to prematurely end his playing career at the age of 31.
