Biography

Asparuhov was the striker of the football club "Levski" from 1960 to 1961 and from 1964 to 1971, as well as the football club "Botev" (Plovdiv) from 1961 to 1963. He played 247 matches with the championship of Bulgaria and scored 150 goals.

The history has included matches of the European Cup 1965/66 season , when Levski played against the starry Benfica , where Eusebio played. In the first match in Portugal, a draw 2: 2 was recorded, and in the return match the Bulgarians lost 2: 3. Asparuhov scored three goals out of four. The Portuguese wanted to buy it, but the communist government of Bulgaria did not give permission.

He played 50 games for the national team , scored 19 goals, including the only one scored by the Bulgarians at the 1966 World Cup [1] .

June 30, 1971 Asparuhov with a teammate Nikolai Kotkov crashed in a car accident . 550 thousand people came to his funeral.
