Ralph Waldo Rose ( born Ralph Waldo Rose ; March 17, 1885 , Healdsburg , California - October 16, 1913 , San Francisco ) - American athlete , three-time champion and medalist of the Summer Olympic Games .

At his first 1904 Games in St. Louis, Rose became a shot put champion, a silver medalist in discus throwing , a bronze medalist in hammer throwing, and sixth in throwing 56 pounds in weight.
At the 1908 Olympics in London, Rose, who was also the standard-bearer of his team during the opening ceremony, defended his title in shot put. He also played for his team in tug-of-war , but they lost in the quarter finals. A year later, in San Francisco, Rose set the first official world record - 15.54 meters - in the shot put, which lasted until 1928 .
During the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm, Rose became the champion in shot put with two hands (the results were summed up with both hands) and finished second in the shot put with one hand.
He died of typhoid fever at the age of 28 years.
