U-863 is a large oceanic German submarine of type IXD2 from the Second World War . The order for the construction of the submarine was given on June 5, 1941 . The boat was laid down on September 15, 1942 at the AG Weser shipyard in Bremen under building number 1069, launched on June 29, 1943, and went into operation on November 3, 1943 under the command of Captain Lieutenant Dietrich von der Esch.

Combat Service
