The U-861 is a large oceanic German submarine of the type IXD2 of the Second World War . The order for the construction of a submarine was given on June 5, 1941 . The boat was laid on July 15, 1942 at the shipyard of AG Weser in Bremen under construction number 1067, launched on April 29, 1943, was put into operation on September 2, 1943 under the command of Lieutenant Commander Jürgen Esten .
